The Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA) is an administrative tool whose structure is JAVA code. The DBCA allows the user to modify a database configuration, delete database managing model and can also be used to manage the PDBs.
In this guided study we are going to install the Database Software together with the database creation using the DBCA.
You already have the installation of Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL 7) in VirtualBox (Learn more).
Made the settings Grid Infrastructure 19c ASM Installation (Learn more).
Download software Oracle Database 19c for Linux x86-64:
Oracle Database 19c (19.3) for Linux x86-64 (LINUX.X64_193000_db_home.zip)
Let's start installing Database Software
Enter the user where the Database will be installed.
su - orades
Copy the file LINUX.X64_193000_db_home.zip into the directory already configured in the variable $ORACLE_HOME "/u01/app/orades/product/19.0.0/db_1" and unzip it with a command:
If you are using X emulation then set the DISPLAY environmental variable. DISPLAY=<machine-name>:0.0; export DISPLAY
Example log [orades@orades-19c oragrid]$ hostname -a orades-19c [orades@orades-19c oragrid]$ DISPLAY=orades-19c:0.0; export DISPLAY
Run the command to start the installation.
Configuring Installing Database Software 19c.
We now follow all the steps to prepare for the installation of Database Software 19c.
We will select the option Set Up Software Only, since the purpose is to install only the software. "Next" button.
We continue with the installation of the type Single instance database installation, as this application will not be a Cluster Database.
We will choose the Enterprise Edition option to use all high performance and scalability features.
Let's leave the default directory.
We leave the privileges of the groups already configured. "Next" button.
In this version you can now let the installer run the ./root.sh script automatically, just check the Automatically run configuration scripts box, and pass the root password of your S.O. "Next" button.
The installer will show a summary of your settings now just install "Install" button.
If you have any adjustments to make, this is the time to make the necessary corrections that the check will suggest, you can also ignore and proceed.
"Yes" to confirm the execution of the scripts automatically by the Database installer, wait for the installation to finish.
Finally we successfully completed the installation of Database Software 19c.
Using the Assistant (DBCA) for Database Oracle 19c
Now we are going to use DBCA to create the Multitenant Database with Pluggable Database (PDB).
Use the DBCA command:
We started with operations with DBCA, selecting the option "Create a database". "Next" button.
Let's go to each item as follows:
1) Leave the Typical Configuration checked;
2) Enter the Global Name of your DATABASE;
3) Select the Storage Type ("Automatic Storage Management ASM). ASM will bring up File Location: automatically;
4) Keep the Character Set:
5) Enter the Password;
Attention this step to Create a Multitenant Database:
1) Check Create As Container Database
2) Enter the name of your PDB
A summary of the configurations that will be performed by DBCA will be shown.
Wait to finish it may happen that progress will take a while.
Your Pluggable Database (PDB) in a Multitenant Environment has already been successfully created. "Close" button.
Access sqlplus to check if your database is Startup with the commands:
sqlplus / as sysdba show pdbs;
